Dear Krishnan Bala (I hope I can call you that :) )

Many thanks for coming over.

Yes tamil is a funny language and as you say since there is no diff letter to distinguish between Pa,Ba, Ta, da and of course sa and sha words can take a new meaning altogether.

I'm glad you liked this post and I will take it as the highest compliment if you say that this post reminds you of Malgudi.  I guess my love for R K Narayan may have rubbed in this piece.

Thanks a bunch for being here, appreciate it.  Pls do visit more often.

Warm regards,

Sudha

Dear Sudha,
Your name resounds with one another story teller who has become well known in Karnataka. There is of course the additional Malgudi tinge. Tamil being far removed in relation with other north indian languages, some times sound funny with certain terms.Hence the Dhu and Thu of your ppatta is discernible but it will be on the receiving end at the wrong place. You might have observed that no tamilian muslim accepts that he is sunni but only sanni. When I was residing in the Punjab, my land lady used to tell the milk man to drop the packet in her absence in the bag hanging from the Gundi and my wife is to wonder, if it can not be done at any other place. Same word used at different places mean so much different  especially when languages like Tamil do not have a different letter to distinguish between Pa and Ba,Ta and Da,Sa and Sha and so on.You may also know that the Mallus are right with  only  one word starting with "O", and that is orange.Your blog has brought out this discrepency in great charm.

Hi Kamalji,

Thank God you managed to read this one now atleast :-)) so many days after I sent you a mail.

Raghu was a good neighbour and friend of ours, but no we are no longer in touch with him now, he moved out of town and we moved out of the old house.  Somehow we lost touch and it is almost 20yrs since we saw or heard from him or his family.
